Frequently asked questions

How long does tire installation take?
Most standard 4-tire installations take 45–60 minutes. Balancing is already part of that — it is included with every install, not a separate step — and so is the TPMS reset. Add time if you are also having a seasonal set swapped or a repair done at the same visit. We'll give you an accurate estimate when you arrive, and the waiting area has free Wi-Fi so you can work while you wait.
Do I need an appointment or can I walk in?
We accept walk-ins when availability allows, but booking online is the best way to guarantee your time slot — especially during busy seasons (October–November winter swap and March–April summer swap). Online booking takes under 2 minutes and you'll get a confirmation email immediately.
What is included in a tire installation?
Every tire installation at Prince Tires includes: mounting the tire on your rim, computer dynamic balancing, valve stem check and replacement if worn, torque to manufacturer spec using a calibrated torque wrench, and a complimentary TPMS sensor inspection. We don't cut corners.
Can you install tires I bought online?
Yes. Bring in any tires — purchased online, from a dealership, or another shop — and we'll mount and balance them. We charge a flat installation rate per tire with no surcharges for outside purchases.
Do you dispose of old tires?
Yes, we handle responsible tire disposal included in your installation. Alberta's tire recycling levy ensures your old tires are processed through a certified recycling program. You don't need to worry about what to do with your old tires — we take care of it.

What a tire installation actually involves

"Install" covers five separate operations, and the $25 per tire rate covers all of them.

  • Dismount the old tire The bead is broken from the rim and the old tire comes off without scarring the wheel. Alloy wheels mark easily, which is why this is done on a machine rather than with bars.
  • Mount and seat the new one The new tire goes on and gets inflated until both beads snap into place against the rim flange. A bead that has not fully seated causes a slow leak and a vibration that looks like an imbalance.
  • Balance the assembly Every new tire is balanced as part of the install — spun on a computer balancer and weighted so it runs true. That is included, not an add-on.
  • Valve stem and TPMS Rubber valve stems perish and are replaced with the tire; they are the cheapest part of the job and a common slow-leak source. TPMS sensors are inspected and reset so you do not drive away with a warning light.
  • Torque to the manufacturer's spec Wheels are torqued with a wrench to the figure for your vehicle, not run down with an impact gun. Over-tightening warps brake rotors and stretches studs.

The re-torque, and why it matters in Calgary

Wheel nuts can lose clamping force in the first few hundred kilometres after any wheel comes off. New paint, a fresh mating surface, and heat cycling all let the joint settle.

  • Come back at 50 to 100 km A quick re-check with a torque wrench. It costs nothing here and takes a couple of minutes.
  • Freeze-thaw makes it worse Metal expands and contracts with every chinook swing. Calgary puts a wheel joint through more of those cycles in a week than a milder climate does in a month.
  • A loose wheel announces itself A clicking or clunking that changes with speed, or a shimmy that was not there when you drove away, means stop and get it checked rather than carry on.
  • This is why impact guns are the wrong tool An impact gun cannot be set to a number. Torque sticks help, but a calibrated wrench is the only way to land on the actual spec.

Bringing your own tires is fine — including ones bought online. The rate is the same, and we check the size and DOT date before fitting them.
